PROTECTING YOUR NEW INFINITI FROM THE SUN AND THE ELEMENTS

When you drive home in your new INFINITI from INFINITI of Thousand Oaks, you will want to maintain your like-new car condition for as long as you own or lease your vehicle. Here in Southern California, the weather and elements can be damaging to your new car. Not only do we have bright sunny days, but also salty sea water.

Protecting the Exterior

Your new car has a protective clear coat over the paint. You will want to further enhance the protection the clear coat provides against scratches and fading paint by applying a coat of wax to your vehicle on a regular basis.

We recommend waxing your car about once every four to six weeks or if you notice the water is no longer beading up when it gets wet. There are all sorts of wax products on the market and most do a good job, but you will want to make sure to use a soft cloth to avoid scratching the finish. If in doubt, feel free to stop by for advice on which products would be best.

Aside from regular waxing, you should wash your car at least once a week to get off dust, dirt, salt deposits, and road grime. Even though you have a protective coat of wax, it will not last as long on a dirty car.

• TIP: Never use household dish soaps or laundry detergents to wash your car. These are too abrasive and could damage the clear coat. Always use an approved car wash soap.

Protecting the Interior

You will also want to vacuum out the car weekly to remove dust, dirt, and other debris from the carpeting. The dash, interior side of doors, and seats should be wiped down weekly, too. Never use household cleaners on the interior of your vehicle.

Many products are not designed to be used on cars and could cause discoloration and/or damage to the interior. There are different cleaning products specially formulated for automobiles.

Protecting Your Car While It Is Parked

The inside of your car needs to be protected from direct sunlight. We recommend getting a sun shade to use to block out most of the sun anytime you are parked outside and cannot find a shaded area or parking garage to park in.

If you are fortunate to have a garage, you should park your vehicle in it whenever possible. Your garage keeps the car out of direct sunlight, as well as severe weather, like thunderstorms that create hail.

If you do not have a garage, another option is to invest in a car port with a cover. Even though a car port is not fully enclosed, it does have a roof to help block out most of the sun and inclement weather.

By caring for your new INFINITI, you will be able to maintain that new car smell and look for years to come. For further questions about caring for your new car, or to experience the latest INFINITI models, please feel free to stop by INFINITI of Thousand Oaks today or call us at 805-494-1200.
